But we didn't have the time. They are south of the Logging valley and separated from the Dutch Creek valley by the wildly remote Anaconda drainage. Brian Kennedy and I have been eyeing these summits for a long time. There are no trails leading near them and we know a trip in there would provide numerous challenges. We were walking along talking quietly when we heard an unusual sound. Several wolf pups were playing on the trail in front of us. An adult wolf spotted us and quickly ushered the pups toward denser cover. A second adult began howling.
