After the first snows and cool fall weather there are often some warm and sunny days in Montana. Bud and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful warm and clear day by hiking from the Fielding trailhead down Ole Creek.
There was beautiful colors everywhere.
Snow still covered the summits while great fall colors filled the valleys. Much of the Ole Creek valley is wide and filled with aspen parks.
Sheep Mountain rises high above the valley floor above the Ole Creek backcountry campsite.
The aspens were finishing their display while the Western Larches on the hillside were just beginning to turn gold. Another week or so and they will reach their peak.
Aspens silhouetted against the dark slopes of Shields Mountain as late morning fog rises off the wet vegetation near the creek.
Elk Mountain, all white on top.
On the forest floor, deep in the shade, there is still plenty of fall color.
The lower park of the valley narrows and Ole Creek is quite confined. The trail, however, remains high above the stream and affords views down the valley and out of Glacier toward mount Adams.
Oh, did I mention to do this hike you have to wade across Ole Creek. It was a little cold but the sun warmed my feet nicely.
